Types of Swimming Pool

Outdoor Swimming Pool Designs 2Before you choose a swimming pool design, you will probably want to consider the different materials that are used to build pools. The first type of pool is the fiberglass pool. These pools are pre made in their shapes. To install these pools, the installation crew basically digs a hole in the shape of the ground, installs the plumbing and places the basin in. There are also vinyl lined pools that work much the same way. The only difference is that the vinyl is soft and is placed in the hole and the edges are attached to the pool structure. On of the newest and most popular types of pool is called gunite. These are made by creating a rebar structure and spraying gunite over it to create the pools shape. Gunite is basically a mixture of cement and sand. Once it is sprayed, the surface is smoothed and allowed to dry. After drying a plaster surface is added. These are probably the most versatile pools as they can be made in any shape or size. Finally there are concrete pools, but they are built much less frequently because gunite has made them obsolete.

Basic Pool Shapes

Outdoor Swimming Pool Designs 1There are a few outdoor swimming pool designs that are seen most commonly. These designs are usually the most inexpensive to purchase and install. The first design that you will see is the standard rectangular pool. These pools will allow people to swim equal laps from one end of the pool to another. This is how competition swimming pools are shaped as well. You will also see oval shaped pools. These are a little more artistic and designed to give the area a lagoon or oasis feel to it. People who choose these are usually more interested in aesthetic and will use their pool for relaxation. Finally you can find pools that are in wither of these shapes with a Jacuzzi built along side of them. Having a Jacuzzi is great because it will allow you to still use a portion of your pool during the winter months. The warm water makes it easy to relax outdoors even when the weather is cool.

More Exotic Pool Designs

These pools can add a really great flair or personalization to your back yard. People who do this type of outdoor swimming pool design and building usually have a large area to build their pool because they can take up a lot of space. They are quite expensive and are the types of pools that you may see at a beachfront hotel. Often these pools will have features such as a lazy river or a disappearing edge. The lazy river allows you to float around a river like extension of your pool on a raft and the disappearing edge creates the illusion that the water is spilling over the edge of the pool. There are many other features that you can have installed in your pool as well. Exotic pools can be almost any shape you desire, so be creative if you choose this design.
